LOVE Forever21

Today I did a little shopping for some new active wear. I’ve been putting it off because, in all honesty, I don’t want to keep spending money on clothes if I’m going to continue to shrink. I’m in desperate need of some new running shorts, new workout pants/capris, new yoga pants (the ones I have are SUPER huge on me), and most importantly new sports bras. I really thought I could get away with just wearing camisoles under my tank tops to workout, but I was informed by my personal trainer (AKA the hubster) that I need to wear a sports bra. Yes…a man lectured me on that. Why? Well, because for one (the most obvious) is to prevent sagging (TMI, I know. SORRY!!!) My argument to that was simply “I don’t have any boobs.” His response “Doesn’t matter.” And secondly, I guess while I was doing some workouts that required me to be on all fours (like push-ups or planks), he said I flashed him a couple of times. Wow. I mean, come on…really? That made me laugh…but then it also made me a little self-conscious. So today, while we were out and about running errands, we stopped in at one of my favorite “go-to” stores Forever21

I gotta say… this store has come a long way from what it used to be 10+ years ago. They have some cute stuff!!! And, I’m not gonna lie, I needed to get somethin’ inexpensive. Yeah, kinda have to be frugal for a little while. We kinda spent a little too much in Hawaii if ya know what I mean.

The great thing about Forever21’s active wear line is that, it’s not expensive at all. They have a pretty decent collection of colors and styles to choose from. And I was pretty happy with most of what I tried on. I don’t have a lot going on in the boobage area so it’s not like I had to be picky with finding something with lots of support. I actually needed somethin’ with lots of padding so that I don’t look flat-chested. Anyway! Moving on.

These have extra padding in ’em. Yup… happy about that.

On a side note. I didn’t get a chance to go to the gym today after running errands. I had intended to go… but I fell asleep. Power nap. And I almost convinced myself to take the day off. Almost. But when I realized that I’m going to a family BBQ tomorrow and wasn’t sure when I’d actually find the time to get a good workout in, so I decided to do a GOOD cardio workout tonight.

Shorts are a lil too big – had to fold ’em over… which only means I have an excuse to buy me some new ones!

Will definitely be going on a shopping spree soon.

Friday Night’s Workout

Ok people, let’s do this!

After running on the treadmill for about 15 minutes, I came downstairs to hit the weights.



With the boys. Upper body today.


Can u see me? I’m sittin’ on a bench about to do some chest flyes and chest press.


3 sets of 10 with 20lb dumbbells.


Then it was on to a combo – a set of pushups and tricep thingies.

3 sets of 10reps to failure. On the triceps workout, I did 40-50lbs.


After that, I did this. No clue what it’s called. I should really educate myself with the names of these machines.

But for now, we’ll just use pictures. K?

I did 3 sets of 10 with 40lbs.

I probably could do heavier but my arms were getting super tired.


Then I did a combo using these 2 machines…

I did 3 sets of 10 reps. Weight is unknown.

All I know is the hubs kept adding weight to the 2nd machine each set because apparently I wasn’t lifting heavy enough.

Blah, blah, blah.

Again, I didn’t keep tabs of the weight lifted. Sorry, my bad. But I was completely spent at the end of this.

What can I say? I love workin’ out with the boys. Even when I get complaints that I’m not moving fast enough. I won’t say names (*cough* the hubs). 😉

Hump Day Workout

Not gonna blab on and on about nothing in this post.

Just wanted to let ya’ll know what workout I did today.

First up, got in a great cardio workout.

HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training

Burn the maximum amount of calories in a short amount of time!

Absolutely the best way to get that cardio in!


On the treadmill…

warmed up for 10 minutes
ran @ 7.0 speed for 2 minutes
brisk walked @ 4.0 speed for 2 minutes
*repeated 4 min set 6 times for a total of 24 minutes
cooled down for 10 minutes


Then did some major toning!!!


**30 reps each, repeated circuit 3x**


My legs were very shaky afterwards.

I am pretty confident that I will be SORE tomorrow.

Ah well… no pain, no gain right?

Cuppy Cake Time

So remember Casey’s Cupcakes? Winner of The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars some seasons ago?

Hubs and I went to try their cupcakes back in February and thought they were awesome.

Anyway, Hawaii is home to another Cupcake Wars winner.

On our last full day in Hawaii, my sissy, brother-in-law, and brother took us out to play tourist and they remembered us mentioning something about wanting to check ’em out.

Since we weren’t very far from the place, we decided to stop in and taste these yummy cupcakes.

Like Casey’s Cupcakes, Hokulani Bake Shop is a cute little boutique located on Restaurant Row in Honolulu.


I’m not much of a sweets person. I think I may have mentioned that before.

Everyone always goes for the red velvet cupcakes.

I wanted something different. But what?

It took me awhile to narrow it down but it all came down to this.

I have a thing for peanut butter. Yeah…I love the stuff.

So this was a no-brainer:


Hubby thought that might be too peanut buttery for him, so he got this:

Didn’t realize there was a bad glare until now.

First thing I did. Licked the frosting.

Rich, creamy, peanut butter.

Yes it was delicious. But then I thought, would it be too much?

Would I regret eating it afterwards? Would my tummy be upset with me for eating something sooooo sweet?

Good thing for me, the rich PB flavor was just in the frosting.

The rest wasn’t too sweet. Thank goodness.

In my honest opinion, I liked these cupcakes better than the ones from Casey’s Cupcakes.

I like moist, fluffy cupcakes. And Hokulani Bake Shop totally delivered.

Their cupcakes aren’t as big as Casey’s Cupcakes’, but for someone like me who doesn’t eat (or need) that much sweets anyway, the serving size was perfect.

Two thumbs up from me!

Koko Head Crater Trail

Being in Hawaii for a wedding meant crazy, busy schedules and running around. I had every intention of keeping up with my daily workouts…but that’s not exactly what happened. So after the wedding, I was determined to get a workout in. Not my typical gym workout routine. Not just a typical run around town. I wanted to do something outdoors. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and gorgeous views Hawaii has to offer. So what did we end up doing? We went for a hike on the Koko Head Crater Trail.

I have to admit. I lived in Hawaii for the first 18 years of my life and have never been on this hike. It’s not a typical hike on a trail that winds around a hill or mountain. It’s actually an old railroad track that goes directly up to the top of Koko Head Crater. It’s like hiking up stairs. And the higher up we went, the steeper the “steps” became.

The hubs and I were ready to conquer this trail. My little 16 year old cousin Mae wanted to come with us. Don’t let this trail fool you. Just because it’s just “stairs” up a mountain, doesn’t mean it’s easy. This hike is definitely challenging both physically and mentally. Fortunately, for me, I’m in pretty good shape.

The hubs and I probably could have made it up the hill in 20 minutes. Give or take. But for someone who’s not as active as we are… it could take longer. It took us 45+ minutes to get up to the top. Only because Mae was not used to going at our pace. At one point we had to slow things down for her and do intervals – climb up 10 steps rest for 30 seconds and then take 10 more steps and so on.

She was such a trooper! I cannot tell you how many times I heard her say “I can’t go any more. I’ll just sit here and wait for you guys to come back down.” But the hubs and I kept encouraging her to keep going. That the view up on top is sooo worth the pain and sweat.

On one of our rest stops, I decided to keep going. The constant stops messed with my momentum.

Then finally, we made it to the top. Well, I made it up there first….but whatever, we made it!

Hanauma Bay

Mae was quite proud of herself. We were very proud of her, too. She said she couldn’t have done it without us nagging encouraging her to keep pushing forward. And we were right…the view was soooo worth it.

But I wanted to show you anyway. Oh yeah, and there’s no audio either.

Anyway, we spent about 15 minutes at the top before we realized that it wasn’t over yet… we needed to get back down. Oy. We met a girl on the way down, that does this hike daily. She told us it used to take her 10 minutes to get back down the hill. Because she would run down this trail. But she had a little accident awhile back where she tripped and fell down like 3 steps, injured herself pretty badly and had to have stitches which had her out for 2 weeks before she could do it again. Now it takes her about 40 minutes to get down because she’s afraid of falling again. While we were talking to her, a guy ran up past us. We had moved to the side to let him pass.

About 8-10 minutes later, as we were hiking down, the same dude ran past us going down. The hubs and I stopped and exchanged looks. Completely floored by this guy’s strength and endurance to run up and down this hill. So what did we do? We ran down the rest of the way. It took us a total of 20 minutes to get back down (from the top). About 10 minutes (maybe less)  from the moment we decided to run. My legs were on fiyah by the time we reached the bottom. Seriously. Legs were shaking. It was AWESOME! Of course, we had to wait for Mae to catch up to us… but she wasn’t that far behind.

So yeah. Loved this hike. Loved the burn. LOVED that I could do it without complaining. Hubs even told me he was proud of me. Because a year ago, I would have probably complained the whole way up. Yay me! 🙂

Friday Night Workout

Real quick…just wanted to share with ya’ll what I did for tonight’s workout.

Being on vacation completely jacked up my normal workout schedule.

And I’m glad that I’ve been able to jump right back into it this week.

Here’s what I did tonight:


On The Treadmill

5 min brisk walk @ 4.0 speed
5 min run @ 7.0 speed
Cooled down for 2 minutes

Then it was time to hit the weights with the guys.


1st Circuit

1st set – 25 lbs on each side – to failure. At least 10 reps.
2nd set – added 5 lbs on each side – to failure
3rd set – added another 5 lbs to each side – to failure


2nd Circuit

3 sets of 10 reps with 10lb weights on each side


3rd Circuit

3 sets of 10 reps w/20 lb. weights.

(that’s my brother-in-law doin’ his set)

And I almost busted my face doin’ this.
Got scolded by the hubs and lectured about having better control of the weights coming down.

*sigh*

Yeah, I don’t do well with lectures. But I corrected myself on the last set.


4th Circuit

3 sets of 10 reps each – 60 lbs.


5th Circuit

3 sets of 10 reps each arm

Thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s workout routine.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be hurting tomorrow.

My Sissy’s Big Day

My sister could not have picked a more perfect day to have a wedding. After having slept only 6 hours the night before, we woke up to the most beautiful view. I’m talkin’ clear skies, beautiful blue waters, the smell of love in the air! Perfect, perfect, PERFECT!!!!

We spent the night in the soon-to-be newlyweds’ suite at the JW Marriot Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko’olina, one of the most luxurious hotels on the island.

That morning, my sister and I stood on the balcony enjoying a little sister time. We looked over to see if we could see the ceremony site from the balcony and lo and behold what do we see? The chairs had already been set up for the ceremony!

That did it. That made it real. That totally triggered the excitement of the day.

Can you tell? She’s practically glowing! Yeah and that’s how I look without make-up. Pay no attention to me. 😛

After checking out the view, this was delivered to our room. Thank God for groomsmen! Bronson Chun (my partner in this wedding) was nice enough to bring us some coffee!!!

The calm and quiet morning ended at 9:30a. The wedding planner arrived to check up on us and fill us in on what was going on. Shortly after, my sister’s hairdresser May Ramilo arrived to do our hair and make-up.

My sister amazed me. She was completely calm and composed throughout the entire process. No sign of Bridezilla anywhere. She did a great job putting together a team of vendors that worked well together to make this such a successful event. And not to mention the awesome bridal party! Her bridesmaids (myself included) did everything they could to keep my sister from stressing and worrying about all the things that could go wrong.

After we were all dolled up, it was time for pictures!  Here’s just one pic of us girls.

And then it was SHOW TIME! Okay, so I don’t have a lot of pictures of the ceremony itself because I was IN the wedding. But here is what I was able to gather from people I know sittin’ in the audience.

Besides witnessing the lifelong commitment made between 2 special people in my life, I would have to say the best part about this whole wedding, was being part of the wedding party. I had THE best time hangin’ out with the girls. I’ve never actually hung out with them because they are my sister’s friends. But after only a couple of days with them, they’ve become like sisters to me. I’m so glad my sister has them in her life. And the guys are such sweethearts, too! True gentlemen AND funny! Yes, indeed, we had a blast.

Wedding Rehearsal

It was one of the most beautiful weddings ever. At least of all the ones I’ve ever attended. I loved being a part of it. I was honored to have been one of the 3 lucky women to stand beside my sister on such a special day. And yes there were times where I wanted to bawl because I realized my sister was all grown up. I almost lost it when I helped her put on her wedding dress. I thought I was going to ruin my make-up. And let’s not forget about the speeches! I cried…and made others cry, too. Never fails. What can I say? I love my sister. 🙂
