The Cutest Surprise

Meet Ladybugs (London) and Pear Bear (Paris).

PhotoGrid_1363060475642

On Sunday morning, these 2 surprised us with a birthday cake.

Made for Auntie (me), Uncle, and Daddy.

Lady has been singing “Happy Birthday” to us for about a week now and could not wait to make birthday cake.

When the hubs and I came out of our room and walked into the kitchen, Lady serenaded us with her own rendition of the famous song while Pear Bear smiled and waited impatiently for us to cut the cake.

I actually have the performance on video on my phone but had issues uploading it so it didn’t make the cut.

Anyway, here is the cake…

Made with love.

2 blue candles and 1 pink candle.

Lady sure knows how to pay attention to details!

And it was pretty yummy. I think I ate about half that cake by myself.

And I’m not joking either.

😛

After that, it was time for presents.

Lady chose a mask for the hubs.

And for me, it was all about Hello Kitty.

And this…

IMAG1761

Yup. She knows her auntie well.

Let me explain… I work with my hands. And I’m always getting cuts and bruises at work.

So I will most definitely be putting these babies to use.

😛

I just thought I’d share with you one of the cutest birthday celebrations this month.

Oh! And before I end this post…

Wanna wish these 2 cutie pies a Happy Birthday!

(If you don’t know by now, those are the twins. Hubs is on the right)

Because I’m Crafty Like That

It has been a CRAZY past few weeks… so much to share with you… but it looks like I may have to break it all into parts. I could do the whole ‘chronological order’ thing but I’m kinda too tired to really sit here and think about everything that I want to share with you. So I’m going to share with you the most recent event/thing (whatever you want to call it) that has happened.

Saturday August 25th, was my little sis-in-law’s baby shower. And I volunteered to do decorations and the dessert/candy station. The creative Martha Stewart wannabe in me wanted to do ALL KINDS of fabulous things. I’m pretty good with making desserts, so I had the bright idea to do everything myself instead of having them made professionally. I figure…it can’t be that hard, right? Anyway, before I go on to tell you the projects that “failed”, I will show you the final product.

Tada!!!

Looks pretty doesn’t it? And I made most of it myself.

🙂

Marshmallow Pops. So easy to make. My niece loved ’em.

Candy covered pretzel sticks.

YUM.

And for decoration… a diaper cake. It was a cupcake themed baby shower, so I couldn’t help but go overboard with “cupcake” decor. The cupcake topper is actually a ceramic piggy bank. Baby Arianna’s first piggy bank.

🙂

So the “projects” that failed and didn’t quite make it were 2 things.

1. Cake Pops

2. Homemade Tissue Pom Poms

My sister made cake pops for her wedding favors. She told me exactly what to do and what not to do. She told me not to use the entire container of frosting if I decided to use the super moist cake mix. Did I listen? Nope. Totally didn’t take her advice. Didn’t realize I had bought the super moist mix. And guess what… my cake pop balls were too dang moist and literally fell off the stick. So those stayed hidden away in the fridge, but fret not… they did not go to waste. We munched on them throughout the day. And both guests of honor and parents-to-be loved ’em, too.

I also wanted to make tissue pom poms to place on the table for a lil decoration. And I bought the materials to make them. However, I went for the cheap tissue paper and you really pay for what you get…even with tissue paper. There wasn’t enough tissue paper in the bag that I bought to make a nice full tissue pom pom. Oh well. Next time.

All in all, I’d say that the baby shower was a success. The parents-to-be loved the details and enjoyed themselves very much. And that’s all that matters.

Love you guys! Can’t wait to meet (and spoil) baby Ari!!!

Cuppy Cake Time

So remember Casey’s Cupcakes? Winner of The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars some seasons ago?

Hubs and I went to try their cupcakes back in February and thought they were awesome.

If you want to see which cupcakes we tried click here.

Anyway, Hawaii is home to another Cupcake Wars winner.

*Hokulani Bake Shop*

On our last full day in Hawaii, my sissy, brother-in-law, and brother took us out to play tourist and they remembered us mentioning something about wanting to check ’em out.

Since we weren’t very far from the place, we decided to stop in and taste these yummy cupcakes.

Like Casey’s Cupcakes, Hokulani Bake Shop is a cute little boutique located on Restaurant Row in Honolulu.

I’m not much of a sweets person. I think I may have mentioned that before.

Everyone always goes for the red velvet cupcakes.

I wanted something different. But what?

It took me awhile to narrow it down but it all came down to this.

I have a thing for peanut butter. Yeah…I love the stuff.

So this was a no-brainer:

Hubby thought that might be too peanut buttery for him, so he got this:

And I apologize for the bad camera shots. That’s what I get for taking pics from my phone and not a real camera.

Didn’t realize there was a bad glare until now.

Here’s what my brother got:

My sissy’s choice:

And, of course, bro-in-law decided to try their red velvet cupcake:

First thing I did. Licked the frosting.

Rich, creamy, peanut butter.

Yes it was delicious. But then I thought, would it be too much?

Would I regret eating it afterwards? Would my tummy be upset with me for eating something sooooo sweet?

Good thing for me, the rich PB flavor was just in the frosting.

The rest wasn’t too sweet. Thank goodness.

In my honest opinion, I liked these cupcakes better than the ones from Casey’s Cupcakes.

I like moist, fluffy cupcakes. And Hokulani Bake Shop totally delivered.

Their cupcakes aren’t as big as Casey’s Cupcakes’, but for someone like me who doesn’t eat (or need) that much sweets anyway, the serving size was perfect.

Two thumbs up from me!

🙂

i heart weddings

If you know anything about me, you’d know how much I LOVE weddings.

I love everything about weddings.

From the venue, to the decor, to the dresses, to the entertainment…

and to the FOOD!!! Oh-em-gee I love food. 😛

I love ’em all.

If I could afford to throw myself a wedding every year, I sooo would.

I’m soooo not kidding at all.

*sigh*

I can dream, can’t I?

🙂

Okay, so this past Sunday we went to a wedding. The first wedding of the year. And trust me, there’s a handful of them coming up and I am looking forward to every single one of them.

Who got married: Hub’s cousin Christine Olivares to Stuart Bullard

When: Sunday, March 25, 2012

Where: Del Mar Room in Belmont Shore, CA

For some odd reason, I thought it was going to be on the Queen Mary, but I was wrong (and disappointed).

So yeah. For those that follow me on Twitter…sorry. I totally lied about the location.

😉

The day started off very nice and sunny.

I was able to get some gym time in: 30 min HIIT on the treadmill, which actually put me just over a 5k.

Not bad.

Ran to Target really quick to get a last minute gift.

Hey, don’t judge. I was sick all week remember?

By the time we were all ready to go, the sky had turned an ugly shade of gray.

On the drive out there, it poured.

No sweat though. I was able to keep myself amused….

CHEESEBALL STATUS

I even dragged the hubs into it…

Backseat Photo Booth Op lol

After all that nonsense, we finally made it to the venue. I got so caught up saying hello to everyone that I didn’t really get a chance to take many pictures. And the few pictures I did take…well the quality wasn’t the best.

Just know this. The wedding was simple, elegant, and very intimate.

And we had a FABULOUS time.

🙂

Christine looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding gown.

the vows

Presenting Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Bullard!

Congratulations to the happy couple!!!

Remember how I said I love food? Yeah, well I was really looking forward to seeing (and tasting) what was on the menu.

Cocktail hour: Full open bar. Helped myself to a margarita and some wine. Yum.

Appetizers served: bruschetta, bacon wrapped scallops, and chicken kabobs.
Wasn’t a big fan of the bacon wrapped scallops or chicken kabobs. Just my opinion.

And next up: Dinner!

All I have to say is…I should have ate more appetizers.

Dinner was steak, shrimp, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. It looked delicious.

Not gonna gross you out with the details, but let’s just say I don’t eat raw meat.

Yeah. So hubs gave me his shrimp and I just stuck to that and the veggies.

The best thing I ate all night?

This.

red velvet cupcake

Yummy friggin’ cupcakes galore!!!

Mmm, mmm good.

🙂

Again, I apologize for the crappy photo quality.

And for the lack of photos taken.

I’ll do better next time.

I promise.

Here’s one more for the road…

Date Night

Date night is a must.

A priority.

Especially when the hubs and I have very different and very crazy schedules.

The only day/night that really allows us to spend some QT with each other is Fridays.

SO yesterday was our day.

First stop: Victoria Gardens Mall.

Victoria Gardens, Rancho Cucamonga CA

We were planning on doing a little shopping and since it was SUCH a nice day, we just had to go to an outdoor mall.

It would have been nice to go to the beach, but we didn’t feel like making that long drive out to the coast.

Maybe next weekend.

Soon.

For sure.

After walking around the entire mall and stopping in all our favorite stores, it was time for dinner.

We were craving pizza.

And somehow we ended up at the BJ’s Restaurant near our house.

What we ordered:

House Salad

Medium Pizza: 1/2 Mediterranean 1/2 BBQ Chicken

And THIS:

BJ's Famous Pizookie: 1/2 chocolate chip, 1/2 oreo cookie w/ vanilla ice cream.

It was SOOOOO good.

I don’t regret a single bite.

We ended the night with a movie.

Hub’s choice.

John Carter

I don’t watch a lot of TV these days…

So I haven’t really seen the promos for this film.

But he insisted we see it.

My take on it?

LOVED it.

I could write a review on it, but that should be a completely different post.

So maybe next time.

We could have stayed out a LOT longer than we did, but I had to be at work early this morning.

So our night ended just before midnight.

🙂

***********

How did you spend your Friday night?

2 for 2

Yesterday: Sunday Run Day…

While people usually take the day (and/or weekends) off from working out,

I do not.

My “rest” days are light workouts.

Usually I try to run a 5k.

Anyway, yesterday, I had to work pretty early in the morning and was a bit exhausted by the time I got home.

Almost talked myself out of working out…

After going through ALL the reasons why I shouldn’t go to the gym.

I had to do something to motivate me!

Told myself…

“If you do your 5k today, you can treat yourself to something yummy afterwards.”

😉

Yay!

So after running my 5k, I let myself indulge in THIS…

CHOBANI Non-Fat Pomegranate Greek Yogurt

Was still kinda wary about trying a new yogurt flavor…

After all, I’ve never been a fan of the snack.

But I heart pomegranate, so I figure it HAS to be good, right?

Well… what does THIS tell you?

Okay, wait. I don’t think you get it…

let’s try this again.

BAM!!!

If I had a snout, I would have stuck my nose in there and licked it clean.

LOL

So silly, I know. But that’s the only way I can really describe how much I LOVED it.

Yup! I said it! I’m in love with Chobani Greek Yogurt! 🙂

2 for 2, baby! Looking forward to trying the Low Fat Strawberry Banana one VERY soon.

😉

********

Which Chobani Greek Yogurt flavor is your fave?

never say never

Yogurt.

Never liked it growing up.

Actually didn’t like a lot of the foods that I eat now.

But yogurt… I’m pretty picky with flavors.

I usually stick to the mixed berry yogurts.

So I tried Chobani’s Blueberry Greek Yogurt at the start of my “eat clean” journey

….and DID NOT like it at all.

Like other foods, I forced myself to eat the entire thing because I didn’t want it to go to waste.

And I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it, especially since everyone is raving about how yummy it is and how healthy it is for you!

So I decided I wasn’t gonna go down like that.

I tried again. This time with one of my favorite flavors…

CHOBANI Greek Yogurt Apple Cinnamon

And I was hooked.

I absolutely LOVED it.

Can’t wait to try the other flavors…

🙂
