Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 37 Weeks Preggers

I think I’m pretty much all set! Been doing laundry and nesting like a fiend!!! Baby P’s newborn clothes and blankets have all been washed and put away and is ready to go! Our hospital bag has been packed and is sitting by the door. The infant carseat that Ella used her first year has been cleaned and installed in the car. Ella’s bag has also been packed for the time that she will need to be staying with relatives while I’m in the hospital.

Now I just need to sit back and just relax as much as I can before the chaos.

With my first pregnancy… my 37 week update was the last one that was published before I went into labor. I hadn’t published my 38 week update because I never made it through the whole week…just a couple of days. I had Ella at approximately 38 weeks and 3 days. So this could also potentially be my last entry before this baby decides to come. The idea is exciting for sure but it still freaks me out to think that she could come any day now.

The belly is still growing and it really is getting harder and harder for me to get up off the couch, the floor, the chair… rolling over in bed? Takes minutes, not seconds, to accomplish. In my last post I mentioned being anxious about going into labor…and I still am… but I hope it doesn’t get harder than this to be mobile. Ella doesn’t quite understand my “slowness” when she wants me to play with her.

37 Weeks

Just out of the shower and getting ready for bed…

My big girl and I…

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P weighs about 6 1/3 lbs and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel, which is about the length of a Swiss chard

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: I’ll know at my 38 week checkup. Hopefully not much more.

Workouts: Doing chores around the house is my workout. Keeping up with my toddler is my workout.

Symptoms: I wanna say Braxton Hicks contractions but I’m not quite positive. And I know Baby P has “dropped” because the pressure and movements in my pelvic area hurt. Other than that…nothing new.

  • Abdominal pressure. If baby has dropped down into my pelvis in anticipation of labor, she is putting increased pressure on my abdomen, which might make me feel some new aches and pains down below—and a greater urge to pee too!
  • Contractions. At 37 weeks, cramping or contractions are to be expected. After all, I’m going to have a baby soon—my body’s ramping up! I may find that the contractions go away if I sit or lie down. That means they’re Braxton Hicks—not real labor contractions.
  • Nausea. An upset stomach is pretty typical almost any time during pregnancy. But now that I’m so close to my due date, it could be a sign I’ll go into labor soon. (Whoa!)

Food Aversions: Greasy foods.

Food Cravings: Junk food. Sweets. And greasy foods. Go figure.

Sleep: Frequent trips to the bathroom doesn’t allow for uninterrupted sleep these days but it’s been pretty good. The first full week of being on maternity leave and prepping for Baby P’s arrival didn’t leave me much time to nap with Ella when she takes her afternoon nap. But I try my best to get some extra sleep when I can. That’s about all I can do, right?

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? I bought a new belly wrap. I didn’t need one last time…or at least I didn’t think I did. But my belly is definitely bigger than last time and I need all the help I can get to get back into pre-baby shape.

Stretch Marks:  Yeah, for sure. I can’t really see how many, but they’re there. My belly has stretched more than last time. It’s gonna leave a mark. Oh well.

Miss Anything?: Just feeling normal in my own skin.

Belly Button In or Out?  I don’t have a belly button.

Wedding Rings On or Off? As I’m typing this, they’re on… but that’s because I can’t take them off. My fingers are too puffy.

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? Happy. Tired but happy.

Any Movement? Yup. All over. In my back. In my pelvic area.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? Yes! So we haven’t exactly picked out a name yet but we did run a poll on Facebook just to see which name people liked most. Of course, it wasn’t meant to be the deciding factor as to which name we’d pick. But it was interesting to see there was quite a few people who felt the need to suggest other names not listed on the poll itself. It was fun to see the results… and we will announce her name when we announce her arrival.
Looking Forward To? Getting to spend more time with my Ella before Baby P comes. She is growing so much everyday, I don’t want to miss any of it.

Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 36 Weeks Preggers

I went on maternity leave at the very start of 36 weeks (August 30, 2017). I spent the first day relaxing. Fought a cold since the weekend and I just needed some time to relax. Other than that, I’ve been doing everything I can to prep for Baby P’s arrival. Been doing a lot of laundry and cleaning. And making shopping lists. Of things I am going to need in the near future. Like more nursing bras and other postpartum supplies. All of which aren’t 911 but will eventually need to be purchased in the coming weeks. One of my associates at work predicted I’d go into labor early… so I’m working on getting my hospital bag ready to go and getting Baby P’s laundry washed and sorted. So much to do!!!

Anyway… let’s get on with my update, shall we?

36 Weeks

At the Baby Sprinkle…

After the Baby Sprinkle with my monster…

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P is still packing on the pounds – at the rate of about an ounce a day
  • She weights almost 6 lbs and is more than 18 1/2 inches long – which is about the length of a head of romaine lettuce
  • She’s shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body, as well as the vernix caseosa – the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her 9-month amniotic bath
  • She swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture called meconium that will form the contents of her first bowel movements

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: 5 lbs up from my last appointment 4 weeks prior. Brings us to a grand total of 30 lbs gained total from the start of this pregnancy. *sigh* I guess it’s all for baby right? My midwife did advise me to limit my sugar intake though. But other than that, Baby P is lookin’ good! She’s already head down and in position and her heartbeat is nice and strong. Now it’s just a matter of waiting.

Workouts: won’t be doing anything till post baby. This SoCal heat is unbearable to really do anything. Indoors and outdoors. Not for this prego lady.

Symptoms: still the same as last week. Hasn’t changed much. More exhausted? I didn’t think it would be possible, but I am.

Food Aversions: Anything greasy makes my tummy turn after I eat it.

Food Cravings: Ice Cream. Probably because of this heat.

Sleep: I want more of it!!! It’s been super hot at night so it sucks. I have to get up to pee like every 5 minutes it seems.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? After the baby shower, we went to pick up a few things that we’ll need prior to Baby P’s arrival – burp rags, wash cloths, a few bottles… whatever else we need can be bought later on after she’s here. I also bought some things for myself. Nursing bras, underwear, pjs/loungewear… just the necessities since we have a lot of things already from having Ella.

Stretch Marks:  I think so. Like a lot more of them.

Miss Anything?: Working out. I really do.

Belly Button In or Out?  Out.

Wedding Rings On or Off? Depends on the day. Some days I puff up pretty bad. Other days I’m okay.

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? Irritable for sure. This damn heat is just too much for this prego lady to bear.

Any Movement? Yes. A lot.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? We had our baby sprinkle!!! It was small and intimate, which was fine by me. It almost didn’t happen because I did not want to stress myself out with party planning. But the hubby decided to take on the responsibility of planning it for us. The main purpose of having it was to celebrate Baby P #2 (who by the way still does not have a name!).

Us opening gifts!

Looking Forward To? Being able to truly relax and enjoy the time I have before Baby P #2 makes her appearance. Gonna spend as much time with my 2 year old as I can.

Emotions Run High

As Baby P #2’s birthday fast approaches, the anxiety is kicking into high gear. The thoughts and emotions have taken over my entire being and I’m just a hot mess.

You’re probably thinking “what’s there to be nervous about? You’ve already been through this once.” Yes I know. And the fact that I have makes it that much more difficult to grasp. With my first pregnancy, I didn’t know what to expect. I had no clue what it was like to be pregnant, how painful contractions felt, or been sleep deprived like no other once the baby had arrived. And now that I have experienced it all, the thought of going through it again gives me anxiety.

Pregnancy #2, I have to say, has been different from the 1st. Being pregnant with Ella was a breeze. There was zero morning sickness. I enjoyed every bit of it all. Even had that pregnancy glow. Had the strength to endure all the aches and pains. Was able to muster up enough energy to get through the day. Was able to nap whenever I could at home! It was awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

But with this pregnancy… although I was lucky enough to have a pretty decent one with no complications, it’s been much harder on me physically. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that I was a lot more physically fit with the 1st pregnancy than this time around. I never got back to my pre-pregnancy weight or build. And I’m definitely paying for it now. I am always exhausted. I am always sore from the waist down. It takes forever for me to catch my breath. And I don’t have the stamina to take walks when I’m not at work. It’s sad but so true. Having a 2 year old toddler to chase around and keep up with hasn’t been easy either! When you’re in your 3rd trimester with a watermelon of a belly, it’s hard to sit on the floor to play with your toddler. It’s even more difficult to get up and run around playing tag or hide n seek with her.

So what’s got me all anxious?

Well, for one, the element of surprise when that first painful contraction hit? Not anything I expected. Anticipating pain like that for a 2nd time? Not fun at all. Other people have tried to reassure me that this next one will come fast. Maybe so… but that doesn’t make me feel better about going through all that pain again. My hubby tells me all the time that I made childbirth look so easy. And although he means it as a compliment, I always take it like I shouldn’t be complaining at all about this pregnancy and that I deserve no sympathy when I have back pain or when it’s hard for me to walk from point A to point B without waddling. That’s gotta be the hormones talking right there. I’ve never denied that childbirth isn’t painful. Because it does hurt. And just the thought alone makes me shudder. I want to try and see if I can go through this again without any pain meds and drugs. But I am also very open to getting that epidural… simply because I want to rest! Pushing takes a lot out of you… and I think that’s why it took so long last time… because I was beyond exhausted!!!

Let’s not forget about the newborn stage. Yes it’s such a beautiful and precious time. But let’s face it… sleep deprivation will literally make you go insane! Everyone who’s had a kid goes through it. They’re lying if they said it was a piece of cake from the first minute that beautiful thing came into this world. Bullshit. The ones that say that are the ones that have completely blocked it out of their memory. They simply do not remember just how hard it was at the very beginning. Or they do but they don’t want to admit it because they want you to believe they were the perfect parent right from the start. But whatever… the newborn stage is hard.

Ok… so what’s got me all wired up the most about this whole thing? Going through the newborn stage with a toddler. A toddler who has had mom and dad all to herself for the past 2 years. A toddler who has no clue that a baby sister is on the way. Don’t get me wrong, she loves babies. And understands what they are. But she doesn’t quite grasp that mommy has one in her belly and will soon be bringing one into her life that won’t ever go away. She doesn’t know that now she will have to share mommy and daddy with this new baby. So I’m kinda freaking out about that. About having to divide my time and attention between the 2. About having to deal with mom guilt 2x as much.

Many of my mom friends have said that making the transition from 1 to 2 kids is a lot harder than making the transition from 0 to 1 kid. And I believe that 100%. I don’t expect it to be easy. I just hope I am able to adjust well enough to every new situation that comes up.

Anyway… I just wanted to share my thoughts with you about this whole thing. I am officially on maternity leave and I’m really gonna take this time to spend with my Ella before the new addition makes her appearance. And to continue nesting and getting things ready as well as getting in some much needed rest and relaxation.

Wish me luck!

Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 35 Weeks Preggers

SoCal is going through a major heat wave right now and being prego and trying to look cute in this heat can be very difficult for me. When I’m at home, I just wanna lounge around in nothing but my undies and a tank. So this week’s update photo is a rare one! (no it’s not in the partial nude as just described lol). I had a birthday dinner over the weekend so I actually look sort of decent!!!

35 Weeks

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P doesn’t have much room to maneuver now that she’s over 18 inches long and weighs more than 5 1/4 lbs – about the size of a honeydew melon!
  • She is probably not doing somersaults anymore but the number of kicks should remain the same.
  • Her kidneys are fully developed now and her liver can process some waste products.
  • Most of her basic physical development is now complete and she’ll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: not quite sure but I’m afraid to find out… needless to say I’ve been eating a lot. What can I say? I don’t plan on being pregnant again so I’ve decided to just give in to my cravings and indulge. Because I am determined to get my bod back into pre-1st baby shape ASAP.

Workouts: Ha! Waiting to hit those weights postpartum for sure!!!

  • lower back aches when I’m sitting for too long or when I’m laying in bed
  • major cankles and chubby fingers!

Food Aversions: anything greasy! I’ll eat it and then immediately regret it afterwards.

Food Cravings: donuts!!!! My boss was nice enough to buy us some donuts on Friday. It was sooooo yum. And beer. Ice. Cold. Beer.

Sleep: Not bad…even with the frequent trips to the bathroom and lower backpain… I’ve been getting adequate sleep at night. And even when I nap with Ella.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? yes!!! totally saw these and had to have them…

Muslin blankets

Aren’t they super cute?! I can’t wait for Baby P #2 to use them!!!

Stretch Marks:  I’m pretty sure there will be a lot more new ones. I’ll be able to assess the damage once I pop this baby out.

Miss Anything?: Being mobile. As dramatic as it sounds… I’ve slowed down a lot when walking from point A to point B. It’s hard to walk through narrow spaces. And just being extra careful I don’t do anything to accidentally bump into things with the prego belly.

Belly Button In or Out? Out!!!

Wedding Rings On or Off? I swelled up pretty bad on Saturday night because of the heat and my rings were stuck. So I think I might just have to take them off and keep them off till after Baby is here.

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? Neutral. Not too moody but I have my moments.

Any Movement? Yes. And I have to say she totally beats me up from the inside pretty good. Sometimes it even feels like I might be going into labor.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? A very good friend of mine came over on Sunday the 27th, to bring over some gifts for Baby P #2 and to hang out and let both of our toddlers play. She also brought some food, which is always a big win with this prego lady.
Looking Forward To? Finally going on maternity leave! Wednesday 8/30/2017 I am officially on LOA. And then it’s baby shower and finalizing preparations before baby’s arrival. Eeeeek!!!

Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 34 Weeks Preggers

34 Weeks

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P now weighs about 4 3/4 lbs, is almost 18 inches long and is the size of a cantaloupe.
  • Her fat layers – which will help regulate her body temperature once she’s born – are filling her out, making her rounder.
  • Her skin is also smoother than ever.
  • Her central nervous system and lungs are continuing to mature.

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: Look for it in my 36 week update post!!!

Workouts: nada!

  • Heartburn. Major. Like I couldn’t sleep at night major. No bueno.
  • TMI alert – constipation. Not too bad. But definitely uncomfortable.
  • Vaginal discharge. More than usual. Gross.
  • More swelling due to heat and pregnancy.

Food Aversions: sometimes I don’t like the food I just finished consuming.

Food Cravings: Food from this Asian place I haven’t ate at in the long time. Hubby got some for me over the weekend. And I did not enjoy it at all.

Sleep: And I am finally having trouble rolling over in bed. And getting out of bed. The belly just weighs so much now.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? Not this week.

Stretch Marks:  It looks like I’ve gained some new ones. Can’t confirm it till after Baby is here…and then I will be able to assess the damage some more.

Miss Anything?: Not waddling. Looking cute. Now I just look like a huge pregnant lady that’s about to pop any day now.

Belly Button In or Out?  It’s never going back in, I’m afraid.

Wedding Rings On or Off? On.

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? Emotional rollercoaster ride over here! I had a brief moment the other day when I thought of my Ella Bella and immediately felt sad… she’s growing up so fast and I just realized that in just a few weeks, it will no longer be just me and Ella. I know I should be happy that I’m welcoming another baby girl… but I just can’t help but feel sad, too

Any Movement? Yes sir!

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? Not really. Same ole same ole. Just been trying to rest up a lot. Baby P will be here pretty quick and I’m not looking forward to the sleep deprivation part of this whole thing!
Looking Forward To? Our baby shower in a couple of weeks! The hubs took the reigns on this one and planned the whole thing so I wouldn’t have to stress out about it. It’s more of a sprinkle. We don’t expect a lot of people to be there so it’ll be a nice little intimate gathering to celebrate the new baby. Should be fun! Can’t wait.

Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 33 Weeks Preggers

It’s been crazy for me at work, trying to get some big projects done before I go on maternity leave so it’s taken me awhile to get to my updates. But I’ll get ya’ll caught up soon enough…

33 Weeks

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P weighs a little over 4 lbs. and has passed the 17-inch mark – she’s as big as a head of celery!
  • She might even grow up to a full inch this week.
  • She is rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look, and her skeleton is hardening.
  • The bones in her skull aren’t fused together, which will allow her to move and slightly overlap, making it easier for her to fit through the birth canal. These bones won’t fuse entirely until early adulthood so they can grow as her brain and other tissues expands during infancy and childhood.

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: will know at my next doctor’s appointment at 36 weeks! For now, we can just assume it’s slowly going up and up and up.

Workouts: I workout in my dreams. Seriously… too tired and too sore to do any other workout besides walking.

Symptoms: nothing new. Refer to the previous post… I’m pretty sure my symptoms have been pretty consistent this entire trimester.

Food Aversions: none

Food Cravings: any and everything. Donuts are always at the top of my list. Followed by soda (like coke or pepsi), and occasionally ice cream.

Sleep: still sleeping pretty good, and only getting up once maybe twice to go to the restroom.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? Just a couple of things: 1) Halo Bassinest fitted sheet and 2) Halo wearable blanket.

Stretch Marks:  I think there might be some new ones…

Miss Anything?: yes… all the simple things like being able to just get up off the couch without any struggle.

Belly Button In or Out?  I don’t think I’ll really have one at the end of this pregnancy

Wedding Rings On or Off? They are still on!!!!

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? Definitely a combination of both. And it really just depends on who I’m interacting with.

Any Movement? Yes! She never stops, my little ninja.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? Nah. I’m pretty boring…so nothing really exciting has happened. Just continuing to nest, nest, nest!
Looking Forward To? Going on maternity leave and spending some much needed time with my one and only child until Baby #2 arrives.

Baby P #2 Bump Watch: 32 Weeks Preggers

32 Weeks

What is up with Baby P #2 this week?

  • Baby P weighs about 3 3/4 pounds and measures about 16.7 inches long and is about the size of a jicama!
  • I’m gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to Baby P.
  • She’s going to gain about 1/3 of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb.
  • She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair.
  • Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

What’s been happening with ME this week?

Weight Gained: Had my doctor appointment on August 2nd. I gained approximately 8 lbs from my last appointment at the end of June. Total weight gained since start of pregnancy: 25 lbs. Keep your fingers crossed… trying not to gain any more than I really have to.

Workouts: ha! This prego lady ain’t doing anything extra walking or lifting outside of what I do at work as well as trying to keep up with my toddler who won’t let me relax when we get home for the day. So yeah… workouts will resume 6 weeks postpartum thank you very much!

  • Just being plain uncomfortable – getting more and more difficult to get up from sitting position, from laying in bed… just difficult to move period.
  • Shortness of breath without even walking much or far… Baby P is really taking up a lot of room in my belly.
  • Raging hormones – major mood swings from one extreme to the next.
  • Fatigue. Super freaking tired on the daily.
  • Carpal tunnel and weird cramping in my hands and feet at the most random times

Food Aversions: none I can think of

Food Cravings: everything sweet and bad for your health. Like root beer floats. And cheese. Lots of it.

Sleep: still able to sleep well. No insomnia here. No restless leg syndrome here. *knock on wood*

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? Bought 4 new onesies from work.

And the 4th one – front n back…

How freaking cute is that?!

And from here on out, I will be making purchases for other items I need (and want) for baby. Like new burp rags, wash clothes, bandana bibs, muslin blankets, swaddles, and wearable blankets. And then once I’m on maternity leave, depending on if we get gifts from friends and family, I’ll be finalizing my shopping lists of must haves before Baby P arrives. Lots to do before she arrives!!!

Stretch Marks:  I think I see some new ones. There’s some red marks under what’s supposed to be my belly button. The area itches. I’m pretty sure there will be stretch marks there. *sigh*

Miss Anything?: being able to walk without waddling

Belly Button In or Out?  Very much an outtie

Wedding Rings On or Off? On!

Happy or Moody Most Of The Time? This week? Pretty chill. And happy.

Any Movement? Hell yeah…

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week? Totally drawing a blank here. Guess that means nothing really exciting and new has been going on. Except for the growing belly and the constant reminders that I look like I’m about ready to pop. Yup… at this point in time, it doesn’t even faze me anymore. I kind of agree that I’m huge.
Looking Forward To? Going on maternity leave! 3 more weeks!!!
